Saltmarshe estate was purchased by the Higginson Family in the 18th century from the Earl of Essex.  They in turn left it to one of their great nephews Edmund Barneby, whom in 1840 built the castle out of brick and stone on the old site of Saltmarshe House.

The castle had Victorian towers and gardens, some of which can still be seen today.  The Saltmarshe Estate was later sold off in separate lots. In 1955, despite its magnificent buildings and landscaped gardens, it was described as a post war liability and the castle was pulled down.   Saltmarshe Castle Caravan Park is completely secluded.  As well as offering every opportunity for a quiet holiday, day trips can be made to nearby places of interest such as Worcester, Malvern, Hereford, Evesham and Stratford. The park is laid out in various individually landscaped areas, each attractively presented with shrubs, mature trees and lawns.  Tarmac driveways connect each area with the central section which houses Reception as well as a shop, telephone and laundrette. All plots are connected to mains services such as electricity, water and drainage.  Plots are above average size and private gardening is much enjoyed.  Barbeques, bicycles, ball games and pets are  all welcome provided that the peace and quiet of  others is not disturbed. On the park there is a licensed clubhouse offering live entertainment, bingo, and other games and competitions.         Story Bikes

Arrange your own guided cycle tour of Edinburgh. Tours range from 3 hours to a day in length, and will be planned to suit you and your party/group. Bicycles can be hired.

Edinburgh is a great city for cycling, with both the hills and the sea in easy reach. There are several lengths of off road paths as well as on road cycle lanes and plenty of quiet roads. Guided tours make the most of these, whether touring central Edinburgh or further afield.

Edinburgh is a hilly city – The Athens of the North – but some tours can go round the hills – Arthur’s Seat for instance. And without the hills there would be none of the stunning views!

The city is steeped in legend and history.

Storybikes also offers week-long tours. In 2012 these are in The Scottish Borders, Galloway and along Hadrian's Wall.

Your cycle tour can be combined with some of the rich tapestry of stories that are attached to the buildings and the landscape.

See Andy telling the story of The Lee Penny in Craiglockhart Dell (one of the places which can be visited on a longer Edinburgh tour).

Contact Storybikes for further information and to check availability.  www.storybikes.com
